Opening of See my Story. Copyright by Madgermanes

The opening of the exhibition See my Story. Copyright by Madgermanes will be held on Wednesday, October 15, at 6:00 p.m., at the CCMA Gallery.

The Centro Cultural Moçambicano-Alemão (CCMA) is honored to invite the media, institutional partners, and the general public to the opening of the exhibition “See my Story. Copyright by Madgermanes” to be held on Wednesday, October 15, at 6:00 p.m., at the CCMA Gallery.

This exhibition is the result of a long-term artistic and documentary project with the Madgermanes, a group of Mozambican citizens who, between 1979 and 1991, were hired to work in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) under a cooperation agreement between the two socialist countries. After returning to Mozambique, many of these workers faced profound difficulties, mainly related to the lack of full recognition of their labor, social, and economic rights, which triggered decades of struggle and demands.

See my Story. Copyright by Madgermanes” offers a unique visual and documentary narrative, built from the voices of the protagonists themselves. Photographs, videos, interviews, and autobiographical materials offer the public a unique opportunity to directly access the individual and collective memories and experiences of the Madgermanes, promoting reflection on themes such as migration, identity, historical memory, social justice, and human dignity.

The curatorship and artistic signature are by German photographer and documentary filmmaker Sabine Felber, who developed this project through the Afrika Medien Zentrum e. V. and Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur and the CCMA in close collaboration with the Madgermanes, ensuring that the exhibition is not just an external representation, but rather a process of co-creation and a space for voice and visibility for the community.

With this exhibition, the CCMA reinforces its commitment to promoting cultural, historical, and social dialogue between Mozambique and Germany, highlighting stories that are often silenced but are part of the collective memory of both countries.
